Georges JACOB is known for being the most famous and also the most prolific cabinetmakers of seats of the XVIIIth century. (Pierre Kjellberg, Le mobilier franÁais du XVIIIe siËcle, ed. de líAmateur). The design and the very refined ornamentation of this very large and deep "marquise" carved with rows of pearls, ribbons, friezes and acanthus leaves is very characteristic of the beautiful models made by Georges JACOB who became master in Paris in 1765. "Marquises" are very rare and elegant seats that were reserved to the elite of the XVIIIth century and are today highly prized by art lovers and collectors: the very rare models presented in public sales reach record prices.
